For the study, researchers from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzed 500 meat samples from freshwater fish caught in freshwater tanks across the United States.
The analysis estimated that eating fish contaminated with these chemicals is equivalent to drinking water contaminated with PFE (48 parts per trillion) for one month.
The study found the average PFA amount in fish to be 9,500 nanograms/kg, but this increased to 11,800 nanograms/kg in fish caught in large lakes such as Superior, Michigan, and Haven.
This amount of PFA is 280 times greater than that found in fish caught and sold commercially.
According to Dr. David Andrews, EWG senior scientist and lead author of the study, freshwater fish eaters, especially those who regularly fish and eat fish, have dangerous levels of PFA in their diet. their body. Presence is scary.
Currently, PFE exists in about 12,000 forms with many uses, including firefighting foam, non-stick coating on frying pans, and textiles.
