Risk of Consuming Contaminated Freshwater Fish

Risk of Consuming Contaminated Freshwater Fish Eating one freshwater fish is as harmful as drinking contaminated water for a month Washington: Eating one freshwater fish a year is equivalent to drinking water contaminated  with 'forever  chemicals' for a month, a new study has revealed. Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAs), known as “eternal chemicals,” are in many ways part of our daily lives, but these compounds have also been implicated in cancer and other health problems. For the study, researchers from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzed 500 meat samples from freshwater fish caught in freshwater tanks across the United States. The analysis estimated that eating fish contaminated with these chemicals is equivalent to drinking water contaminated with PFE (48 parts per trillion) for one month. The study found the average PFA amount in fish to be 9,500 nanograms/kg, but this increased to 11,800 nanograms/kg in fish caught in large lakes such as Super...

World record-setting wealth loss for Elon Musk

World record-setting wealth loss for Elon Musk Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter and founder of SpaceX, has set a new world record and this is a world record for the most significant loss of personal wealth. In a post on its website, Guinness World Records said that between November 2021 and December 2022, his wealth decreased by $165 billion. These figures are taken from data from Forbes magazine, but Guinness says that according to some other sources, the loss to Elon Musk could be even higher. When he bought Twitter last year, his electric car company shares, Tesla, saw a decline as investors worried that he was not paying enough attention to Tesla after buying Twitter for $44 billion. The previous record for the largest loss in personal wealth was held by Japanese technology investor Masayoshi Son in 2000, who lost $58.6 billion. This estimate of losses is based on the value of their shares that can recover their lost value. This means that their wealth may also increase. He lost his...

Neurodegenerative Diseases

Image
Neurodegenerative Diseases Two new studies have shown promise in developing therapies for spinal cord injuries and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and ALS. The research team led by Simone Fabiano at the Swedish University of Linköping was able to produce artificial neurons that mimic up to 15 of the 20 characteristics of biological neurons, allowing them to function in a similar way to natural nerve cells. The team focused on incorporating communication through ions, which is a crucial aspect of biological cells. Experiments with mice showed that the artificial neurons were capable of connecting and stimulating nerves. The next step for the researchers is to reduce the energy consumption of the devices. On the other hand, a study led by Northwestern University in the United States has successfully developed neurons from stem cells, using an innovative technique that allows the cells to grow on synthetic material composed of "dancing" nano...

The first Artificial Neurons Created

Image
Artificial Neurons  The first artificial neurons created from stem cells have been successfully used in two new studies, promising future therapies for spinal cord injuries and neurological diseases. These neurons were created by researchers at the University of Rome La Sapienza, who have developed a revolutionary technique that uses pluripotent stem cells to create a replica of artificial neurons. This breakthrough marks a major step forward in the field of regenerative medicine and could pave the way for new treatments against debilitating neurological diseases and spinal cord injuries. The new technique has even begun to show success in animal trials, with promising results being reported among older animals. .“It is the first time that neurons have been generated in a dish from stem cells. This will allow us to develop new therapies for people with spinal cord injuries, or neurological diseases," said Professor Min S Kim, who led the research team at the University of Rome La ...
